Taking Care of Your Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain
veneers are an excellent way to correct a wide range of cosmetic flaws with
your smile. They are an extremely durable restoration that delivers beautiful,
natural looking results. But in order to make sure your results last as long as
possible, you will need to take good care of your teeth and gums following your
procedure. Since your porcelain veneers are attached to the front surface of
your teeth, any oral health issues that develop will become even more
problematic.
You should care for your veneers just as you would care for
your natural teeth. Brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day to
remove any debris and prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar. You should also
visit your dentist at least twice a year for your regularly scheduled teeth cleanings.
This will ensure you don’t develop any oral health problems that may impact
your veneers.
While your porcelain veneers are highly durable, they are
not indestructible. In order to prevent chipping your veneers, avoid biting
down on hard substances such as bones, ice, or hard candies, and do not chew
your fingernails. If you grind your teeth at night, you may want to wear a
mouth guard to protect your veneers from chipping or breaking.
