What Causes Bad Breath?
There are a number of things that can cause bad breath:
·
Foods and beverages
·
Tobacco use
·
Gum disease
·
Tooth infection
·
Certain medications
·
Dry mouth
Some of these issues require dental services such as tooth
fillings, root canal, and periodontal treatment. Others however can be easily
addressed through fresh breath treatments
at your dentist’s office and at home.
Dental Hygiene
One of the best ways to conquer bad breath is to maintain a
consistent dental hygiene routine. This should include brushing your teeth
after every meal and snack, and flossing every day. If bad breath is an issue,
consider flossing morning and night, and discuss mouthwash options with your
dentist. Be careful with mouthwash – certain types can exacerbate dry mouth and
even destroy dental restorations.
In addition to your daily routine, be sure to visit your
dentist for regularly scheduled appointments. These visits will provide you
with an opportunity to discuss any dental hygiene concerns you have and allow
your dentist to determine if your bad breath is the result of an underlying
oral health issue. If a more advanced problem is causing your bad breath, your
dentist will be able to come up with the most effective solution to treat the
issue and help you maintain a healthy mouth and fresh breath.
If you have chronic bad breath, please contact an experienced dentist
in your area to schedule an appointment today.
