What Causes Bad Breath?

There are a number of things that can cause bad breath:
·         Foods and beverages
·         Tobacco use
·         Gum disease
·         Tooth infection
·         Certain medications
·         Dry mouth
Some of these issues require dental services such as tooth fillings, root canal, and periodontal treatment. Others however can be easily addressed through fresh breath treatments at your dentist’s office and at home.
Dental Hygiene
One of the best ways to conquer bad breath is to maintain a consistent dental hygiene routine. This should include brushing your teeth after every meal and snack, and flossing every day. If bad breath is an issue, consider flossing morning and night, and discuss mouthwash options with your dentist. Be careful with mouthwash – certain types can exacerbate dry mouth and even destroy dental restorations.
In addition to your daily routine, be sure to visit your dentist for regularly scheduled appointments. These visits will provide you with an opportunity to discuss any dental hygiene concerns you have and allow your dentist to determine if your bad breath is the result of an underlying oral health issue. If a more advanced problem is causing your bad breath, your dentist will be able to come up with the most effective solution to treat the issue and help you maintain a healthy mouth and fresh breath.
If you have chronic bad breath, please contact an experienced dentist in your area to schedule an appointment today.

Are Porcelain Veneers Reversible?

In order to place porcelain veneers, your cosmetic dentist will need to remove a small amount of your natural tooth enamel. Although veneers are incredibly thin, they would protrude unnaturally from your smile if placed directly over existing enamel.
When tooth enamel is removed, it cannot come back. This does not mean that once porcelain veneers have been placed you will always have to have them, but it does mean that treated teeth will always require some form of additional protection.
If you lose or chip a veneer, your cosmetic dentist can simply replace it with a new one. If you no longer wish to have porcelain veneers, your dentist can discuss options such as dental bonding or dental crowns to ensure continued strength and aesthetic perfection.
Lumineers®
Some cosmetic dentists offer Lumineers®, a thinner veneer that require no tooth preparation. This option is wonderful for people who desire a straight, white, and flawless smile, but do not wish to undergo the traditional porcelain veneer process. However, Lumineers® are too thin to cover some of the more advanced cosmetic dental issues addresses by porcelain veneers and may not be right for every patient.
What’s best for your smile can be determined by your cosmetic dentist during your initial consolation.
To learn more about your dental veneer options, please contact an experienced cosmetic dentist in your area today.

What Treatments are Common in a Smile Makeover?

Each smile makeover is unique, customized by an experienced cosmetic dentist to address the specific needs of an individual patient. There are, however, some treatments that provide a broad range of benefits, making them more common in the smile makeover procedure.
For your smile makeover, your dentist may recommend cosmetic treatments such as:
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Teeth whitening
  • Dental bonding
  • Gum recontouring
Some restorative and general dentistry services such as dental crowns, inlays and onlays, white fillings, and dental implants are also commonly used in smile makeovers. What is right for your smile is best determined by an experienced cosmetic dentist.
Customizing Your Smile
Your smile makeover treatment will begin with a one-on-one consultation and evaluation with your cosmetic dentist. During this meeting you can ask any smile makeover questions you may have and learn more about the treatments necessary to perfect your smile. Depending on your dentist, a wax model or computer imagery may be used to give you a better idea of what your treatment can accomplish and provide you with an opportunity to determine which treatments you feel will best help you reach your goals.
If you are unhappy with several aspects of your smile, please find a cosmetic dentist in your area to schedule your initial consultation today.
