Dental Bonding or Porcelain Veneers?

There are many options for perfecting smiles marred by common cosmetic issues. Two of the most popular are porcelain veneers and dental bonding, both of which can address a number of problems. However, there are distinct differences between the two and learning which one is right for you requires the assistance of an experienced cosmetic dentist.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is applied in layers over a tooth’s surface and can be used to address cosmetic problems such as size irregularities, crooked presentation, and chips and cracks. Bonding can be completed in a single office visit and may produce results for several years, but will need to be touched up over time.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are placed over the front of teeth to address nearly every conceivable cosmetic imperfection. Veneers require a small amount of tooth preparation and the process may not be completed for two to three weeks. However, porcelain veneers tend to last longer than dental bonding and may be better suited at addressing more pronounced cosmetic issues.
Finding the Right Solution
Each smile is different and no one solution will be suitable for all. The best way to learn if dental bonding, porcelain veneers, or a combinations of procedures is right for you is through a one-on-one consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist.
To learn more about perfecting your smile, please contact a cosmetic dentist in your area today and set up your initial consultation.

What is Osseointegration?

Osseointegration is the process by which a dental implant is accepted as a natural part of your body. The process of osseointegration can take six months or longer. But it is due to this process that dental implants are able to offer a permanent solution for tooth replacement.
Dental implants are made of titanium, a biocompatible metal used in a number of medical and prosthetic devices. On the surface of each dental implant are numerous microscopic holes. While these holes are undetectable to the naked eye, they provide sufficient footing for osteoblasts. Once an implant is inserted, osteoblasts fill the holes on its surface holding it permanently into the jaw.
Dental Implant Advantages
The process of osseointegration allows dental implants to replace a tooth’s missing root. This prevents changes to the structure of the jaw, an issue not addressed by any other form of tooth replacement.
In addition, dental implants:
·         Restore complete strength and function
·         Will not come lose or fall out
·         Can hold restorations that look and feel completely natural
Dental implants are a wonderful solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, but may not be right for everyone. To learn if dental implants are right for you, please contact an experienced dentist in your area today to schedule an initial consultation.

What Problems can Porcelain Veneers Fix?

Porcelain veneers are one of the fastest and most effective ways to improve the appearance of your smile. Your cosmetic dentist can place porcelain veneers over the front of your natural teeth to address a host of cosmetic dental problems such as:
·         Severe discoloration
·         Uneven sizes
·         Crooked positioning
·         Gaps
·         Cracks
·         Chips
Porcelain veneers can be placed on a single tooth or used for a complete smile makeover. What is best for you will be based on your specific needs and can be determined by an experienced cosmetic dentist.
Placing Veneers
Porcelain veneers are typically placed over two office visits. Your first visit will include tooth preparation, the creation of impressions, and the placement of temporary veneers. The impressions taken at this visit will be sent to a dental lab where your porcelain veneers will be crafted to fit flawlessly into your smile. On your second visit, your cosmetic dentist will remove your temporary veneers and place those created specifically for your smile.
The process of placing porcelain veneers is generally completed in two to three weeks.
To learn if porcelain veneers are right for you, please contact an experienced cosmetic dentist in your area to schedule an initial consultation.
