Am I a Candidate for Cosmetic Dentistry?

Most people are not born with perfect teeth. Instead, many of us have one or more aesthetic imperfections with our smile that we would like to correct. Whether you have crooked teeth, irregularly sized teeth, large gaps between teeth, stained teeth, or chips and cracks in your teeth, there are cosmetic dentistry procedures that can help you improve these issues so that you can flash your smile confidently.

Just about everyone is a candidate for cosmetic dentistry. The more important question to ask your cosmetic dentist is what procedures will help you deliver the outcome you desire?

Some of the most commonly performed cosmetic dentistry procedures include:
  • Teeth whitening to brighten up your smile
  • Porcelain veneers to improve the surface appearance of your teeth, correcting issues such as chips, cracks, gaps, or crooked teeth
  • Dental implants to replace missing teeth
  • Dental crowns to fix a variety of imperfections and protect damaged teeth
If you would like to improve the appearance of your smile, a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist is the best way to find out what cosmetic dentistry procedures will achieve your goals.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is an effective way to correct a variety of aesthetic issues with your smile. A tooth-colored resin material is applied to your tooth in layers and then a special light is used to harden the material, permanently bonding it to your tooth. Dental bonding can improve the appearance of your smile while also addressing structural issues that impact the strength and function of your teeth.

Common issues corrected by dental bonding include:
  • Chips
  • Cavities
  • Tooth stains
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Unevenly sized teeth
  • Mild crookedness
Your dental bonding procedure can be completed in one short visit to your cosmetic dentist’s office. You will immediately be able to enjoy a whiter, more beautiful smile. Since the bonding material protects your teeth from additional damage, you should also experience an improved level of oral health.

In order to protect your bonded tooth from damage, avoid biting or chewing on hard objects. You should also maintain a good oral hygiene regiment consisting of brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. By taking these precautions, your dental bonding should last for many years.

TMJ Symptoms

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is a condition that occurs when your jaw becomes misaligned. Your temporomandibular joint connects your jaw to your skull. It is one of the most complex joints in your body and is responsible for performing several important functions such as chewing, yawning, and speaking.

Most people with TMJ experience a variety of painful symptoms, including:

  • Jaw pain
  • Facial pain
  • Ear pain
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Locking of the jaw joint
  • Headaches
  • Limited jaw mobility
  • Clicking or popping sounds when the jaw joint moves
  • Facial swelling
  • Neck or shoulder pain
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, you may benefit from treatment by a neuromuscular dentist. Neuromuscular dentistry is the area of dentistry devoted to treating conditions associated with a misaligned jaw.

Your TMJ treatment will involve two steps. In the first step, your neuromuscular dentist will alleviate the painful symptoms associated with your condition. Once this has been accomplished, the second phase of treatment will seek to correct the underlying condition causing the misalignment and restore your jaw to its optimal position.

Please contact us today to find a qualified neuromuscular dentist in your area.

Am I a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Do you have some aesthetic imperfections in your smile that you would like to correct? If so, you may want to consider porcelain veneers. This versatile dental restoration is used to correct a wide variety of cosmetic flaws in your smile, making them an ideal solution for many of your cosmetic dentistry needs.

Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that get bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. They are commonly used to address the following cosmetic flaws:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Irregularly sized teeth
Ideal porcelain veneers candidates do not have any serious oral health issues which must be corrected. Conditions such as periodontal disease, severe tooth decay, or insufficient natural tooth structure may rule you out as a candidate. Otherwise, just about anyone can benefit from porcelain veneers.

The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers is to schedule a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dentist in your area. At your consultation, your cosmetic dentist will evaluate your oral health and advise you as to whether porcelain veneers are the best option to achieve your aesthetic goals.
