The Benefits of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a quick and cost-effective way to deal with minor cosmetic dental issues. Applied in layers and colored and shaped to fit seamlessly into your smile, dental bonding can be used to address issues such as:
·         Small gaps between teeth
·         Chips
·         Crooked presentation
·         Irregular sizes
·         Discoloration or stains

In some instances your cosmetic dentist may even use dental bonding to address small cavities, but this will be based on your unique needs.

Why Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is much faster, less invasive, and less expensive than cosmetic dentistry options such as porcelain veneers, yet it addresses many of the same issues. Bonding takes only one office visit and can produce results for a number of years. When damaged, bonding is easily touched up, allowing for instant correction of future aesthetic issues as well.

Although dental bonding may not be as strong as porcelain veneers, it is an ideal solution for people with only minor cosmetic issues. Talk to your cosmetic dentist today to learn if dental bonding is a good solution for your smile.

Taking Care of Porcelain Veneers

When you have porcelain veneers placed, you will want to take care of them to prevent premature replacement. It is often expected that porcelain veneers will last for upwards of ten years, but when cared for properly, your veneers may last significantly longer.

Brush and Floss

As with your natural teeth, veneers should be brushed after every meal and snack. It is equally important that you floss at least once, but preferably twice daily to help prevent debris and bacteria from getting underneath your veneers. Use a soft bristled toothbrush and a nonabrasive toothpaste to prevent scratching the surface of your veneers. Once scratched, veneers will need to be replaced.

Do not use a mouthwash with alcohol. Alcohol can weaken the dental bonding holding veneers in place. If you feel it necessary to use a mouthwash, talk to your cosmetic dentist about which brand will be least damaging to your veneers.

Dental Visits

Taking care of your veneers at home is important, but so too are biannual visits to your cosmetic dentist for cleanings and examinations. These visits allow your dentist to thoroughly clean both veneers and natural teeth and to check for issues with your veneers and general oral health issues as well.

Cosmetic Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the quickest and most effective ways to address mild to moderate cosmetic dental issues. Your cosmetic dentist can use porcelain veneers to correct problems such as teeth that are:

·         Unevenly spaced or gapped
·         Chipped, cracked, or fissured
·         Crooked
·         Irregularly shaped or sized
·         Discolored or severely stained

Placed over the front of your teeth, porcelain veneers offer the cosmetic benefits of a straight, white, and natural-looking smile all in as few as two office visits.

Placing Veneers

The placement of porcelain veneers requires two visits to your cosmetic dentist. Visit number one allows your dentist to:

·         Prepare your teeth for veneers
·         Make an impression of your smile
·         Fit you with temporary veneers

The impression of your smile will be sent to a dental lab where your customized porcelain veneers will be made. Shaping and coloring your veneers to fit flawlessly into your smile can take up to two weeks, during which time you will continue to wear temporary veneers.

Once your tailored veneers have been made, you will return to your cosmetic dentist for your second visit. Following the placement of your veneers during the second visit, the cosmetic issues you were facing will be a thing of the past.
